baking boston butt in oven before smoking

Can I start out cooking in an oven with the butt wrapped in foil for a couple of hours then switching over to a vertical water electric smoker to cut down on time?

not sure why you would want to do that? get some some smoke in the butt for a few hours then put it in the oven if you have to.
