Checking internal meat temps in smoker.

by Ron W
(Frankenmuth, Mi.)

I have an electric smoker. I have yet to use it. It says to keep the door closed. How do I know when the chicken's internal temp reaches 160 and is done as your recipe states?
Thank you.

Checking Meat Temperature Without Opening Smoker
by: SmokerBill

The ideal solution is to use a remote meat thermometer. These thermometers have a probe that inserts into the meat. The probe attaches by cable to a base unit, which sits next to your smoker.

Some base units have the temperature display built in. Others send a signal to a remote pager-type device that you can carry with you, up to 100 feet away from the smoker. You can even go indoors and know what the internal meat temperature is...while you're watching Bonanza!

This is my favorite smoker thermometer. With it, you can watch the smoker temperature AND the meat temperature. It's the Maverick ET-73 Smoker Thermometer
