cooking time in brinkmann electric smoker

by Ramona

I just bought a new electric Brinkmann, had 2 whole chickens. After 6 hours, they were still not cooked through. The smoker doesn't seem hot enough..? Suggestions?

Brinkman electric smoker time
by: Anonymous

My Brinkmann electric smoker barely reaches 225 degrees on a warm day, so I understand what you're going through. Whatever you do, don't use an extension cord unless it's a heavy one, at least 12 gauge wire, preferable 10 gauge. A long undersized extension cord will cause the smoker to run cooler.

Keep the smoker out of the wind, don't open the lid unless you absolutely have too, and start with the water pan filled with boiling hot water. Also, let the meat or chicken warm up on the counter for a little while before putting it in the smoker. That will help speed up smoking time.
