How can I modify my vertical gas smoker to use chunks instead of chips?

I recently bought a vertical gas smoker and it has a wood chip box. I would like to somehow make something that will hold chunks, so I can get more smoke. I though about moving the water pan up to one of the racks and just leaving the lid off of the box in order to put chunks in it. But I am unsure if that is good to move the water pan up or not.

for the most part seeing smoke isn't always good. You don't have to see smoke to have your meat have that smoked flavor. I don't think you will hurt anything to try and put a few chunks in the smoke box and see what happens. Doug
