Injecting Marinade Into a Turkey
by: Bill

When using a flavor injector to add flavor to a turkey, you typically inject about one ounce of marinade per pound weight of the turkey. A 12 pound bird would be injected with about 12 ounces of the injectable turkey marinade.

To flavor the turkey, you'd want to inject some of the marinade into each side of the breast, the thighs, the drumsticks and the section of the wing closest to the body of the turkey.

Insert the needle and slowly depress the plunger while at the same time pulling it out a little. Stop, re-aim the needle and push it into a different part of the breast. Don't pull the needle completely out, just work it around into different areas.

Using this method, slowly pump two ounces into each side of the breast, two ounces into each thigh, and an ounce into each leg and lower wing section.

This is approximate, as you'd want to use a little more than an ounce in each leg, a little less than an ounce in the wing sections. It's not a science, just move the needle around as you inject, so the marinade is fairly evenly distributed.
