just bought a smoker what to smoke first?

by Harold
(Florence, AL.)

I am looking for my "first meal" smoke. I have just bought a cheaper electric smoker since I don't know a lot about it yet. What would be a good "break in" thing for me to do. I'm ready to start, I just don't know where to really begin. What would be the easiest thing for me to get going with?

Butt
by: Bob

ABSOLUTLEY THE BEST CHOICE....

A BUTT !!!!!!
I smoke a 5-6 lb Boston Butt at 250 degrees,
anywhere from 9-11 hours. Put a HEAVY coating
of Homemade Rub and sit back. Use plenty of
Hickory Chips.

just starting out
by: Doug

Harold, a pork butt is the most forgiving if you are just starting out. Keep the temp of the smoker at about 225-275 and pull the meat off the smoker at about 195. Wrap in foil and let it sit in a cooler for about 30 minutes to 1 hr. Pull the meat and put on a sandwich or do like I do just put on the plate and enjoy. You can put a rub on the butt then put it in the smoker. Look online and you can find tons of info on making your own rub or buy something from the store. Good luck!!
