Rub Quantity to Meat

by Cam
(Mexico)

I see many recipes for different rubs yet don't see any reference (unless I'm missing it) to how much meat (in pounds) a normal rub recipe would be for. For example if I were to smoke 8 lbs of pork side ribs how many cups of rub would I likely need? If I were to smoke 6 lbs. of beef brisket how many cups of a suitable rub would I best use?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Cam D.

Rubs - How much to use?
by: SmokerBill

A lot of deciding how much to use depends on how salty the rub is, or how much flavor it has. On large, bulky chunks of meat you can put on as much as will stick. Since the meat is so big, it's difficult to overseason it.

Thin meat, like chops, ribs etc should have the rubs applied more sparingly. Again, it's hard to say how much because of differences in rubs, thickness and fat content of meats (melting fat will wash away some rub and flavor), and personal tastes.

One thing to live by...You can always add more, but you can't always take it off. Err on using less rub instead of too much.
