seasoning a new pit?

by John
(Denton, Tx.)

I have just built a new pit, and am wondering the best way to season it. It is all 1/4 steel.

Seasoning brand new pit smoker
by: Anonymous

A brand new smoker should be heated up to a higher than normal smoking temperature for a while without food in it the first time. What this does is clean off any of the chemicals left in the paint, or manufacturing oils left on the metal. Go ahead and throw in some smoker wood to get a feel for how it works, too.
