Should I Buy Electric Smoker?

by Frank

I am a long time barbecue chef on my Weber grill. I want to buy a smoker and was leaning towards an electric smoker because they seem to be able to smoke food with little attention. Is electric a good way to go or are you giving up great smoked meat and fish in trade for less attention?

Why Get An Electric Smoker?
by: Bill

I have used an electric water smoker to smoke all sorts of meats and seafood, and it's always turned out pretty good.  With practice you should have no problem turning out great smoked foods.
I'll have to admit I've had problems using it in cold weather because it doesn't seem to stay hot enough.

I smoke in a wood burning pit smoker and have to say I think food from it tastes better.  But it is more labor intensive.  I think you'll be happy with an electric.
They're relatively cheap, too.  I got mine at Lowe's for about 60 bucks.  I added a temperature gauge onto the lid so I could monitor the heat.  But I've cooked briskets, ribs, chicken, pheasant, rabbit, dove, tomatoes in my electric smoker...and I didn't get any complaints!
