Shouldn't The Butter be Melted?

by Tracy
(Michigan)

Several years ago my husband and I decided to try deep frying our Thanksgiving turkey. I had a friend who did this every year and she told me how juicy and delicious a deep-fried turkey is. I love to try new things, so I was game.

We bought a deep-fryer and read the instruction manual. I asked my friend for some tips. She said "It's so easy! All you need to do is inject it with herb butter and it will be delicious!"

So on Thanksgiving day my husband and father-in-law went outside to get the fryer ready while my mother-in-law and I started preparing the bird in the kitchen. I had my herb butter all set to go and my mother-in-law and I are both avid home cooks so I was not worried about a thing!

We packed the injector full of the herb butter and tried our best to inject the flavor into the turkey meat, but the darn thing kept jamming on us. We tried with all of our might, but we could not get the butter flowing out of the injector. We must have struggled with this for at least half an hour.

Then, my husband, who does not cook at all, walked into the kitchen to see what was taking so long. He took one look at what his mother and I were doing and said "Shouldn't the butter be melted?"

I don't think I have ever laughed that hard in my life! We were trying to inject the turkey with room temperature butter because when you say "herb butter" to me, that is what I think of.....oh, but it makes so much more sense to melt it!

A Technical Solution - Melt The Butter!
by: Bill

Thanks for the great story Tracy! Me too. When I hear "butter" I think butter, not melted butter. Good thing your husband figured it out before you hurt yourself.

I'll be injecting butter into a turkey later tonight, one I'm going to smoke tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder to...
