Smoked Turkey Stuffing For Flavor

by Chris Read

How's it going? Love your website I've learned a lot.

Quick question for ya, I am smoking a turkey for Thanksgiving and I know you can't use the traditional stuffing when smoking so what do you put in it?

In one of your pictures I could see some onion stuffed inside. Would love to know what to stuff it with for flavor.

Thanks,
Chris

Stuffing Smoked Turkeys

That onion was there to add some onion flavor to the smoked turkey, but it also extended the smoking time a while. Leaving the body cavity empty is best when smoking whole turkeys.

You're better off just dusting the inside of the turkey with dry spices, seasoning, or a dry rub instead of putting stuffing or veggies into the cavity.. Although, a few sprigs of rosemary or thyme wouldn't slow down the cooking process either.
