Smoking Chili Meat

Hello! I have looked and cannot find a recipe to smoke ground beef. I did find your cheeseburger recipe, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to make them and crumble or if you had a more chili oriented idea. My thought is to smoke the meat, maybe some veggies and finish on the stove. Just was not sure about the time/smoke ratio. I hate when I overdo the smoke flavor and it is overwhelming. Any input would be appreciated!

Smoking Ground Beef For Flavoring Chili

That's a great way to add smoky flavor to dishes that aren't typically smoke flavored. An easy way is to form the plain ground beef into meatballs, about 2 inches in diameter and place them directly on the smoker grate.

A couple of fist size chunks of smoker wood, or a couple of good handfuls of chips should give the meat plenty of smoke flavor. When cooked completely (to 155 degrees internal temperature), remove the smoked ground beef balls to cool for a bit, then crumble them up to the desired texture for your chili.

You could season the ground beef before forming, which would give more flavor to the chili. You might even leave a few of them whole and use them for a smoky spaghetti recipe!
