smoking multiple pork shoulders

by chris
(plantation fl)

I have asked before about the difference in smoking times as it relates to multiple chickens in a propane smoker. My question today, is I see that smoking pork requires on average 1.5 hours per lb so if I have four shoulders each about 9 lbs is that time per shoulder or would i need treat it as 36lbs...that doesn't seem right.

Smoking Time Pork Shoulders
by: Anonymous

If your smoker can maintain the desired temperature in the smoke chamber when filled up with four shoulders, it should still take a total of around 1.5 hours per pound, of the weight of just one of the shoulders. Allow more time for the smoker to come up to temp at first, because the pork shoulders will be soaking up a lot of the heat at the beginning.
