Southern Boy Moving West - SW Colorado Smoke Woods

I am moving from the deep south where we have lots of good woods available for smoking and barbequeing. I am moving to the Rockie Mountains of southwest Colorado and do not have the foggiest idea what the native woods have to offer. Can someone please tell me what wood to use for the best flavors and temperatures.

You are going to have to use mesquite. It won't be comparable to pecan, but it will be what you find. Understand, that west of St. Louis, bbq will mean beef,(blasphemy), and this is an improper replacement.

You should find Pecan wood available. It is absolutely wonderful for WFO pizza, baking, cooking and of course GOSM smoking.

Best,

I lived in Albuquerque for some time and that was appox.200mi. from that area... short version;trere should be Oak(of some kind) and Mesquite. Apple should be there too, at any rate, any fruit or nut tree(except Pinon)will do fine. Conifers or resin sap trees are a No,No!Make sure the wood is dry and split(catches quicker that way) and give it plenty of air so it burns clean.
Hope this helps and SMOKE HAPPY ;}-
