Stovetop Smoker on Smoothtop Range

by Paula
(Indiana)

I have an electric smoothtop range. The range manufacturer's book states not to use a pan SMALLER than the heating element, but does not address using a pan LARGER than the element. Can I use my stovetop smoker on my smoothetop range, or better yet, can I use the smoker in the oven for the entire cooking time?

Thanks.

Using a Stovetop Smoker
by: SmokerBill

First off, I don't recommend using the smoker in the oven. If you do it very often the inside of your oven would end up coated with a layer of smoky crud, just like the inside of the smoker. It could also cause foods you don't want having a smokey flavor to be smokey.

As far as using it on a flat surface stove top, that depends on what the stove manufacturer has to say. Contact the manufacturer or read the manual to find out if it's ok.
