Thawing Turkey Breast, Then Brining For Smoking?

by Tim Burdeshaw
(Panama City,FL.)

I am planning on smoking 3 6lb turkey breast. Can the thawing and brining be done at the same time? Most of the info I have seen says cold water thawing requires the immediate cooking of them. Or can they be thawed then brined for smoking?

I guess I used a little sense and done it that way.LOL! I waited to late to ask the question! I put them in a small cooler and used a brine mixture that I made a little stronger because I added ice. I didn't have a container big enough except that. Smoked them on my regular charcoal grill with pecan wood. I have never had so many compliments on Thanksgiving Day. Great Site by the way! I have some pretty good BBQ recipes handed down by family and will be posting them soon.

Thanks,
Tim

Is It OK To Thaw Turkey, Then Brine It?
by: SmokerBill

It's alright to thaw the turkey before brining, as long as it goes into the brine immediately after it's thawed. And with the breasts, it would be fine to put them into the brine before they were completely thawed out. Just rinse them well before brining.
