Windscreen

Where can I get a good 3-sided windscreen for a vertical propane smoker? I was putting on a brisket this past weekend when the weather turned against me. The rain didn't last too long, but the wind picked up and didn't relent until, you guessed it, it was time to take the meat off. I ended up smoking the brisket about 90 minutes longer than usual, and used a lot more propane, because the wind kept the temperature down.

What I've done is take a piece of 1/2 inch plywood and cut it into thirds, so you have three sections that are 32" X 48". Buy 4 medium duty hinges and connect the three plywood sections, 2 hinges between each piece.

You'll have a three sided windscreen that can be folded flat when not in use for easy storage. If it's really windy, you might need to attach the plywood to something heavy, like concrete blocks, to prevent them from blowing over and knocking your smoker over in the process.

Home Depot or Lowes will cut your plywood for 25 cents a cut (50 cents total). Or they might just do it for free, depending on their mood at the time.

If you want, you can paint your smoker windscreen to match the color of your home or its trim. Color coordinated accessories please the old lady like you wouldn't believe!
