Wood for grilling Is Magnolia Safe

by Zanne
(Riverview FL)

Is magnolia safe for grilling? A lightening strike recently felled a large magnolia in our yard and we are wondering if it is safe to use for grilling. Thanks!

A resource for wood information

Try contacting Dr. Richard Jagels at University of Maine, Orono. He is a professor of forest biology there who answers all sorts of questions about wood for Woodenboat magazine. An amazing source of knowledge. He may have this tidbit of information tucked away somewhere.

Is Magnolia Safe To Cook With?
by: SmokerBill

I've researched this question before and drew a blank. I just couldn't find any information regarding whether or not magnolia wood can be safely used for smoking.

Best and safest bet...do not use magnolia wood for smoking. Don't use any wood for smoking or grilling unless you're not absolutely sure of its safety for that purpose.
